Andrew is thrilled to be directing Blood Brothers. He was born in Leicester in the late 1950’s, and Willy Russell’s working class British setting in this wonderful musical play has a resonance that touches on Andrew’s own early childhood memories.

Andrew began his lengthy career as a music theatre performer, most notably as Thenardier in the international tour of Les Misérables; Mavrodani in Zorba and the Australian Premiere of Closer Than Ever at the Sydney Opera House. He has been directed by Trevor Nunn, Gale Edwards, Hal Prince, Jon Ewing and Joanne Robinson across a number of productions including Les Misérables, Sweeney Todd and The Phantom Of The Opera respectively. As Resident Director he has worked alongside such luminaries as Sir Richard Eyre, Mike Nichols, Eric Idle, Jerry Mitchell, Alain Boublil, Ben Elton and QUEEN!

In 2012-13 Andrew was Resident Director on the Olivier Award winning musical Legally Blonde, which had successful seasons in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Prior to this Andrew was Resident Director on the Cameron Mackintosh/Disney production of Mary Poppins that went on to win a record number of Helpmann Awards. He directed Ruthie Henshall, along with a stellar line-up of Australian music theatre stars, in Side By Side By Sondheim for Enda Markey. In 2009 Andrew was Resident Director on Jekyll and Hyde touring throughout Seoul and South Korea. This production starred Brad Little as Jekyll, with an all-Australian cast. He was also Resident Director on Monty Python’s Spamalot in 2008, starring the late Bille Brown. Andrew was Associate Director on We Will Rock You mounting several productions in Australia, Japan, South Africa and Toronto, Canada. Throughout this period he enjoyed a close collaboration with composers Brian May and Roger Taylor of QUEEN and author Ben Elton. He was also engaged as Creative Consultant on Floorplay, a ballroom dancing phenomenon that has toured globally.

In 2013 Andrew directed Enda Markey’s production of Do You Hear The People Sing?, a series of concerts in Shanghai featuring the music of Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alan Boublil, and starring Lea Salonga and Michael Ball, with a great Australian cast. These concerts have subsequently been performed in Manila and Taipei with other cities currently in development.

Andrew plays piano and guitar and has established his own recording studio in Sydney. His passion for Rock n Roll has seen him work in various bands over the last 15 years, most notably as John Lennon in the The Beatnix and in Oldplay!
